Who is a Candidate for Invisalign®?
Invisalign® is an excellent alternative to traditional bracket and wire braces for those patients interested in fixing crowding, gaps or crookedness in their teeth. Aside from appearance, Invisalign® can be used to correct your bite and help your teeth come together in a healthier way.
For patients who struggle with frequent headaches, facial muscle pain, flattened or chipped front teeth, gum recession or grinding, Invisalign® is a great way to correct those problems. These problems are frequently attributed to an incorrect or uneven bite and our body’s attempt to find the “right” bite. Invisalign® can move your teeth into the proper position and allow them to come together better. If you have any of these problems, please contact us today to talk with Dr. Mitsos about what Invisalign® can do for you.
How Often Do I Need to Visit the Office?
Each aligner is intended to be worn 22-24 hours per day for 2 weeks. In most cases, Dr. Mitsos will give you 3 sets of aligners per progress visit. This means that every 6 weeks you will have an appointment to evaluate progress, make any corrections necessary, and provide you with the next phase of aligners.
How Does Invisalign® Work?
During your first appointment, Dr. Mitsos will evaluate whether Invisalign® will work for you. If you are a candidate for the treatment, we will take preliminary impressions and photos to send off to have your clear aligners made. Once receive your aligners back, we will schedule the initial Invisalign® appointment. During this appointment, we will place buttons, or bumps, of tooth colored material on strategically pre-determined teeth. The “buttons” are essential to the treatment and provide anchors to induce tooth movement. Although some of these “buttons” may be on front teeth, they are shade matched specifically to your teeth and nearly undetectable. After the buttons are placed and evaluated for accuracy, you will be given your first set of aligners which will be tried in to ensure proper fit.
